Discipline Policy

Discipline at Grace Church Preschool will be provided in a manner consistent with our philosophy. Each situation is an individual one and is addressed in a manner which takes into account the child's age, developmental stage and the individual needs. Our goal is to encourage each child to develop self-control through our positive and encouraging statements and actions. Our hope is to know each child well enough and quickly enough to redirect misbehavior. Punitive actions are not conducive with our philosophy and do not produce the child's positive behavior we hope to foster. Encouragement is much more productive than punishing misbehavior. It is important to be consistent both at school and at home to foster the positive behavior necessary to be successful in a school setting. The cooperation of parents is a vital link in behavior patterning. We do not use any form of corporal punishment. A time-out chair is sometimes used to help a child redirect his behavior. Notes, phone calls and face-to-face parent conferences will be used to help a child achieve acceptable school behavior. If all of the above measures fail to help a child have safe, acceptable school behavior, said child may be asked to leave Grace Church Preschool.
